During 15.07-03.08.2012, we organize a mini summer school at CCAST (China Center for Advanced Science and Technology, Beijing). The summer school focuses on classical statistical mechanics; a maximal number of 30 students (undergraduates and Master graduates) will be accepted for attending the school. For information on application, see here.

30.01.2012- Dr. Haiping Huang was awarded the JSPS fellowship (starting in September 2012).

Research

updated on November 19, 2011

Region-graph belief/survey-propagation equations and region-graph (generalized) free-energy expressions. In a paper published in Journal of Statistical Mechanics, Haijun Zhou and co-authors derived the region-graph loop series expressions for the partition function and genarlized partition functions of a graphical model full of short loops. A region-graph belief-propagation equation and a region-graph survey-propagation equation are rigorously derived. This work brings a new theoretical tool to study real-world spin-glass systems and optimization problems. For the full paper, see here.

18-26.02.2012- Haijun Zhou and graduate student Chuang Wang attended the Les Houches workshop "Bridging Statistical Physics and Optimization, Inference, and Learning".

23-27.01.2012- Haijun Zhou attended the "International Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology" (VITS Hotel, Pune, India) and gave an invited talk "Nature of the DNA over-stretching transition".

16-22.01.2012- Haijun Zhou visited Banaras Hindu University (Varanasi, India) and gave two talks, one at popular level and another at technical level, on graphical models and partition function expansion.

A miniworkshop Fluctuation Theorems and Interdiscipliary Applications wil be held in Conference Room 6620 of Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics China (KITPC), during December 3-4, 2011. see here for more details.

The First National Conference on Statistical Physics and Complex Systems will be held in Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, during November 17-19, 2011. see here.

Currently I serve as an Editor for JSTAT (Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment) and EPJB (European Physical Journal B).
